So you’ve unlocked your sub-jobs and you’ve leveled through the Valkurm Dunes in the jobs you wish to carry on with? Then it’s time to move on to the next areas. The previous part of this guide was focused on getting yourself acquainted with the partying and leveling system, unlocking sub-jobs, and generally getting used to the activities that you’ll be immersing yourself in for the rest of your life here in Vana’diel. This final installment will be focused on moving on to the different leveling areas, and should inform on the things one needs to do until they reach level 30, and many new doors are opened to you in the form of over a dozen new advanced jobs!

Once you’ve created your character and chosen a profession to excel in, the game is relatively straight-forward for the next ten levels. The first part of the guide was focused on getting started in the game, and in this part I’ll cover getting to the first partying area(s), some basic quests for the beginner, and provide an outline for how to unlock and utilize your Support Job. So what are you waiting for? Grab a weapon and get killing out there! Black and White Mages will have the roughest time in the first real test of your ability, levels 1-10. This task is simple enough, and shouldn’t take more than a day to accomplish, especially with the boosts you should be getting from your Tutorial NPC. No starting area has many advantages over any other in terms of combat and monsters, so basing your character creation off where you will be spending the beginning of your game doesn’t have much of a point. As you level however, you’ll undoubtedly need funds to proceed in gathering spells, weapons, armor, and possibly food, and there are some lower level quests in each starting city to assist newcomers.

Starting off in Final Fantasy XI can be quite overwhelming. Up until recently there was no tutorial whatsoever to introduce yourself to the game mechanics and because of this, you were forced to learn the game almost entirely on your own. Quite a lot of curious would-be Vana'dielians are sometimes intimidated by the size of the world and the intricacies of the game play and drop out of the game before things get interesting. Indeed, like certain things in life, Final Fantasy XI can almost feel as if you must engage on a long and frustrating, sometimes tedious, journey before you can bring yourself to begin to fully enjoy, even simply understand, the game. I hope to provide a general resource on character creation and the beginnings of the game, including the starting areas, classes, quests, among other things. Beginning the process of character creation, you'll realize there are five races: Tarutaru, Mithra, Galka, Elvaan, and Humes.

The sole purpose of this FAQ is to provide a centralized location for answers and insight into this popular class. NONE of the information contained within this FAQ should be considered "the gospel" but rather a point of reference. Some material is "borrowed". Either from official texts or other forms of reference, but, *ALL* are given credit at the end of this document. In other words, if I have used something you wrote, I *WILL* give you credit. I'm not here for the glory, just here to help folks ^^. It is also a work in progress that I will be updating from time to time so please bear with me as I work out its finer details and expand it. Creative criticisms encouraged, but, please, keep it civil. Pointless flames will be piped to /dev/null AS WELL AS emails with questions that I have already answered in the FAQ. Yes people do email me such things i.e. "Great FAQ! What can you tell me about Dragoon?", "Do you plan on revising the FAQ or making additions?" No, the version number is just there for show and the comments scattered throughout the FAQ that says I will update are just to mess with you... *sigh* #

In Final Fantasy XI, partying with other players is a big part of the experience. When you're in a party, each character should have a role fitting of their character's abilities. Your goal as a Samurai is essentially to do damage. Most character classes will fall into one or two of the categories below: Attackers- Since your goal in a party is generally to kill enemies, and gain experience, effective attackers are crucial to a party's success. The role of an attacker is to do large amounts of damage. Examples: Ranger, Black Mage, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Samurai, Monk, etc... Tanks- The purpose of a tank is to be a shield for the party, a damage sponge if you will. It is tremendously beneficial to a party to have someone that can absorb most of the damage so that others can focus on doing their role rather than surviving. Examples: Paladin, Ninja, Warrior, (Monk at low levels)
