Latest Update for the Fantasy MMORPG Includes Large-Scale PvP Combat, Improved Connectivity, In-Game Events, and Web Events with Prizes

SEOUL, South Korea – Aug. 31, 2010

Joymax, a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment for the global market, today announced the launch of the Legend V Plus: Battle Arena update for fantasy MMORPG Silkroad Online. Beyond offering epic PvP clashes in the new Battle Arena, the Legend V Plus update also lets players power up items with the adaptable Socket System and avoid the August heat by hunting ghosts in the depths of the Dungeon of Catacomb. Whether you’re looking for dark adventures or hectic combat, the Silk Road is a great place to vacation!

The Battle Arena gives players a new way to interact with (and pulverize) other warriors, either alone or in teams, and features four different modes: Party vs. Party, Guild vs. Guild, Job vs. Job, and Random Matching. The Arena also features new zones like the Chinese Wall, an epic battleground based on the famous Great Wall of China. Players who are victorious in Battle Arena matches earn both experience and Arena Coins that can be traded in for rare gear.

To improve connectivity to the Silkroad Online servers and increase security against in-game cheating, Legend V Plus also introduces a new update to the game’s HackShield anti-cheat system. Combined with the appearance of the Statue of Justice, a powerful being dedicated to striking down illegal activities in the game’s towns, this update means the Silk Road has never been a safer place to travel.

One in-game event and four web events will also be taking place between Aug. 31 and Sept. 28. Summer Ghost Hunt, an in-game event, opens the way to the Dungeon of Catacomb through Sept. 14 and lets participating players delve the Catacomb’s depths, tracking down spirits for rewards that include very limited edition Ghost Pets. The web events occurring at the same time will reward players with prizes like brand new weapons, 500 Silk, and valuable real-world items that include an iPad!

Ships Of Sea And Space On Sale For The September Special!New Gamers Front Monthly Specials Now Available!

Posted on 2010-09-02 by adminNo comments

Loading ... Loading ...

It’s the start of a new month which means there are two new titles specially discounted at the Shrapnel Games e-store, the Gamers Front, all month long. For September gamers can climb on board either ships of wood or ships of futuristic alloys (or both, imagining the wooden ships as a holodeck simulation while sailing the sea of stars) with Salvo! and Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space on sale.

In today’s modern navy sailors have it easy. Want to sink that Iranian MTB? Point, click, boom. In days of yore naval warfare involved mostly having to know a lot about knots. And not killing albatrosses. Salvo!, the nautical wargame from developer Spruegames, takes you back to the golden age of fighting sail but cleverly drops all the knot tying for more modern conventions. Point, click, boom.

Salvo! is a turn based wargame covering naval warfare from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries. Players can command a wide variety of ship types and do battle amongst all the major seafaring powers of the eras along with treacherous pirate scum. Campaign and scenario based, Salvo! also supports a thorough suite of editing tools that allow gamers to modify/create ships and scenarios. Additionally, players can do battle against live opponents even cross platform (PC versus Mac gamers).

Salvo! is very comprehensive and detailed but easy to play. An action marker system allows games to range from ship on ship duels to huge fleet engagements, yet no matter the size of battle the system keeps everything controllable. Visuals are full 3D and in fact the UI is designed so players never feel like they have to leave the action.

Fighting Sail fans will appreciate all the work that Spruegames put into Salvo!. Everything you’d want in a Fighting Sail game can be found, from the dangers of shallow water to shore batteries to boarding actions and more.

Jim Cobb said of Salvo!, “Every serious student of the Age of Sail needs this game.” Pat Miller of Applelinks remarked, “…for the turn-based tacticians out there who love to obsess about this kind of stuff, Salvo! is definitely the game for you.”

Salvo! is available for both Windows and Mac systems as either a physical product or a download. The sale price for September is only $34.95.

And now from sailing ships to starships, Digital Eel’s twenty-minute masterpiece, Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space. Edward Pollard says it best: “It is a simple delight that scales to all levels of player and never, ever overstays its welcome. It is fun, rock solid, and ever so charming and for what it is it is utterly brilliant. If you’ve ever enjoyed a single episode of Star Trek you need to buy this game.”

Weird Worlds is a game that never takes itself too seriously. It’s a game made by folks who like to have fun for folks who enjoy having fun. In itthe player embarks on an epic multi-year mission in Sector Prime, choosing from one of three career paths. On the mission new lifeforms and civilizations can be discovered, aliens can be fought, and plenty of loot can be discovered. All of this in under thirty minutes.

Space is truly infinite in Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, as each universe is generated fresh for each game. Additionally, the game fully supports mods for even more variety.

Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is available for both Windows and Mac, physical product or download. It’s on sale for only $21.95 and it’s full of double rainbows, puppy dogs, and so much just plain fun you won’t know how you made it through your days before owning it.

You can purchase both games at the Gamers Front.

Point your browser to www.shrapnelgames.com for our complete catalog of titles, including demos to both featured games. Additionally, you can find the prequel to Weird Worlds as a free download. Just follow the links on the front page under Free Games.

Path of Exile Puts the Dark Back into Dark PC Fantasy Role-Playing Games

Grinding Gear Games Announces Free-to-Play Online Action RPG Coming in Early 2011

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – September 1, 2010 – Independent games studio Grinding Gear Games today announced Path of Exile, a free-to-play PC online action Role-Playing Game (RPG) set in a dark fantasy world. The game will be available in early 2011.

Playing as one of six character classes, players find themselves banished for their past misdeeds to the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. There, they will encounter hundreds of species of opponents laden with loot and mysterious artefacts as they explore the abandoned continent.

Players will be able to purchase in-game perks, such as extra victory animations, clothing and special effects. To protect the integrity of the game for all players, Grinding Gear Games has decided not to sell abilities or experience points – ensuring a level-playing field for everyone in game.

“We listened to the fan communities of several popular online action RPGs as we designed Path of Exile and are focused on replayability, depth and accessibility,” said Chris Wilson, Grinding Gear Games’ Founder. “We’ve designed the game that we would want to play ourselves, and we know hardcore Diablo, Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege players will find the style familiar and addictive.”

Wilson believes there has been a shortage of dark fantasy worlds in recent RPGs. “While the art style is a return to the classic dark fantasy that many hardcore players grew up with, we’re confident the difficulty curve is accessible enough for anyone. There are no rainbows and unicorns in our game, but there is plenty of blood and rare items to collect.”

With an open-ended and flexible skill and item system, randomised items and random dungeons, the game promises three acts of visceral combat gameplay, with additional expansions already planned.

Path of Exile has been in development for three years by Grinding Gear Games, a independent studio of hardcore RPG fans based in Auckland, New Zealand, the land that brought you the Lord of the Rings movies. The team comes from around the world with many team members meeting each other online through their passion for RPGs.

Key features of ‘Path of Exile’:

  • Six character classes
  • Dozens of unique monsters
  • Complex randomized item system
  • Free to download and play on persistent servers
  • Freedom to use every skill and item with any class
  • Dynamic skill system
  • Competitive online PvP play
  • Randomized indoors and outdoors levels
  • Liven things up with in-game perks
  • Coming early 2011
