MapleStory is an MMO that plays like a side scroller from the 8-bit era of videogames. There are five possible professions to chose from, Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Pirate, and Thief. As with a typical MMORPG, characters level with experience points, doing quests, and killing mobs. The simple graphics and 2D-side scrolling gives the game the look and play of a handheld game.
It is embracing these roots, and is now available for as a download for AT&T Mobile phones and Black Berries. Although, it is not the real game that is available. It is a smaller version, with no online support. The only playable profession, at least for now, is Warrior. It will offer a few levels, minigames, and a chance to level up this character.
Those that purchase this game from AT&T will receive an exclusive item for their MapleStory online game account. This might appeal to hardcore players who want to obtain specialty items for their characters. However, it will not satisfy the need to play this game when away from the PC. Those who have not tried MapleStory, it might be better to play online first, as the game is free.
This is probably more geared for casual players of the game who like the mini-side scroller action. If the game itself is appealing, and you don’t care about playing with others online, and you feel your phone should entertain you when you’re out, then this is the download for you.
