WESTWOOD, MA – March 1, 2010- Turbine, Inc. announced today the release the newest Volume in the epic story of The Lord of the Rings Online™ (LOTRO). Volume III: Allies of the King begins a new adventure for subscribers of LOTRO who can now experience Book 1: Oath of the Rangers, the latest of Turbine’s frequent and substantial updates to the award-winning MMORPG. Book 1 builds on the success of the critically acclaimed Skirmish system with the introduction of Duo Mode and four new 12-player Skirmishes, new high-level skills and recipes and the Spring Festival. Book 1: Oath of the Rangers is now available to subscribers of The Lord of the Rings Online.

NCSoft revealed the upcoming publication of Aion: The Official Magazine, a digital-only magazine dedicated to the fantasy MMORPG.  For $3.99 an issue, the magazine delivers the latest news, player guides and tips as well as a new in-game item every month.

By pre-ordering the first issue, Aion subscribers will earn an extra in-game bonus: five black or white dyes that change the color of their character’s armor. Purchasing a 6-issue subscription for $21.54 or 12-issue subscription for $38.28 will score players even more special in-game items.

EVE Online developers are always working to make players’ gaming experiences the best ever. This week, they have produced a new blog post entitled “organizational tools, standings and other interesting changes”. If that doesn’t whet your appetite to read on, nothing will. *g*

Like many other long-time PnP gamers my age, I had no idea the real portal I opened when I cut the seal on that Dungeons & Dragons red box back in 1980. So many wonderful years of being a main character in hundreds of adventures, surrounded by best friends and soda cans – memories which I hope never die.

It was much the same feeling on the first day I logged into a friend’s Ultima Online account in late 1995. It had been a couple of years since my last D&D session at that time, and I was itching to get back into some quality roleplaying. UO allowed me to do just that, and once again I found myself surrounded by friends, albeit in the virtual sense. MMORPGs have been a most excellent substitution for feeding my RP hunger when time and place have become barriers to gathering a classic D&D party.

Fast forward to February 2006, when Dungeons & Dragons Online was released. Care to guess what I was doing? You know it! I was incredibly excited with the prospect of playing the perfect matching of two of my favorite gaming genres. Finally, the greatest RP game on paper will now also be the greatest RP game online!

Looks like Star Trek Online got a bit of patch action today. Here are the release notes:

• We’ve addressed an issue where some Bridge Officer powers were not getting slotted properly when you trained new powers. This update will address and attempt to place powers in the proper rank slots the next time your character logs in.
• The special item Red Matter Capacitor now properly triggers its cooldown when you have two so that they cannot be stacked.
• Fixed an interact in the Rashana Base that would not work if you did the objectives out of order.
