WESTWOOD, MA – March 1, 2010- Turbine, Inc. announced today the release the newest Volume in the epic story of The Lord of the Rings Onlineâ„¢ (LOTRO). Volume III: Allies of the King begins a new adventure for subscribers of LOTRO who can now experience Book 1: Oath of the Rangers, the latest of Turbine’s frequent and substantial updates to the award-winning MMORPG. Book 1 builds on the success of the critically acclaimed Skirmish system with the introduction of Duo Mode and four new 12-player Skirmishes, new high-level skills and recipes and the Spring Festival. Book 1: Oath of the Rangers is now available to subscribers of The Lord of the Rings Online.

Turbine released a half dozen screenshots for the upcoming Volume III: Allies of the King, Book 1: Oath of the Rangers content update for The Lord of the Rings Online. In Book 1, the War continues to rage in the North and the story continues for players.

Turbine has posted online the patch notes for the new Siege of Mirkwood expansion for the Lord of the Rings MMO and it has done a superb job of explaining all of the changes made to the experience as it gets its biggest amount of content this year. All those interested in getting the details related to the new release can check out the official Patch Notes section of the site. It might take players quite a while to get through them.
Siege of Mirkwood is the culmination of the Mines of Moria section of the game, allowing players to actually reach Dol Guldur, the infamous fortress of the Nazgul, and do battle with the terrifying servant of Sauron itself.

Alongside the introduction of the Skirmish System, Turbine has made changes to all the classes in the game while also modifying how Reputation works, the amount of things, which can be performed while on a mount, and the way Dread and Gloom works in The Lord of the Rings Online.

Lord of the Rings Online’s newest expansion, Siege of Mirkwood, is now available and has been launched across all LOTRO servers.

The expansion, which costs $9.99 for subscribers, and $29.99 for new customers who don’t have Lord of the Rings Online or Mines of Moria, Lord of the Rings Online’s first expansion, already. The full patch notes can be read on LOTRO’s Lorebook.

Turbine is hosting another Welcome Back Week in Lord of the Rings Online from Nov. 12-18, so get ready to dust off your old characters and enter the world of Middle-earth tomorrow for some free gameplay. Players will even get a +25% experience bonus on mob kills all week long.

Once called Greenwood the Great, the black forest of Mirkwood is the next setting for the upcoming Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood expansion, set for a December 1st release date. Siege of Mirkwood will bring them closer to Sauron than ever before, as he himself built and occupied the fortress Dol Guldur, on the hill Amon Lanc.

Signs of a great war are increasing, so much so that Lady Galadriel herself has sent forth a call for aid against the shadow menace. Celeborn is assembling those that heed the call into The Golden Host of Lórien (Malledhrim), and sending it across the Anduin to directly oppose the defilers of Mirkwood, and to the very gates of Dol Guldur.
