Warhammer Online is featuring QA lead Chris Bryant in this week’s developer blog. In the article Bryant lets folks in on the secrets of squashing bugs. Check it out!

Hey there, everyone! My name is Chris Bryant (or as most of the staff in QA calls me, Old Man Bryant) and I am the Senior Lead for the Quality Assurance (QA) department here at Mythic. I have been with Mythic going on 6+ years now and I have spent the majority of that time working QA on either Dark Age or WAR. So, if there is a feature that you love (or hate) within either of those games I was probably involved in the testing of said feature at some point. But being in QA, I live by the following motto:

image

I don’t make it, I don’t break it, and I don’t fix it. I just get to tell other people their stuff is broken.

It is really rare that you find a job that you love; one where you don’t wake up in the morning and want to call in sick “just because.” For me, this is one of them. I have actually had, on more than one occasion, my boss come up to me to yell at me to take time off because I can no longer accrue any more paid time off. And trust me, I really love my free time, but coming to work is fun almost every day. When you come to work and still have a great time, why miss a day?

Perfect World Introduces Flying Mounts

Perfect World has sent out a great description and some screens of the in-game combat-enabled flying mounts. Find out all there is to know about this unique feature below:

Less than a year out from its initial launch, Perfect World has already seen two expansions and an exponential growth of players.

One of the systems that makes Perfect World International stand apart from most MMORPGs is its mounts system. Similar to other MMOs, there are both ground and flying mounts.

However, Perfect World is unique in that flying mounts are combat enabled. This unlocks an entirely new style of combat and adds a new dimension to PvP.

Characters first gain access to flight at level 30, with the exception of the Winged Elf race. Winged Elves are able to fly at level 1, however, their wings will consume mana until they reach level 30.

To unlock flight, characters must undertake their race’s flying mount quest. After a character has obtained their flying mount, they can fly anywhere and everywhere, with no penalty to their mana pool.

Each race has their own unique mode of air transportation:
Humans (Blademasters and Wizards) use Flying Swords. Their starting mount is a magical sword called Celestial Fly.
Untamed (Barbarians and Venomancers) ride Flying Beasts. Their starting mount is a giant stingray called Wave Pacer.

EVE Dev Blog: Cleaning Up Factional Warfare

EVE Online developers were faced with the herculean task of cleaning up factional warfare. Huh? If you’re not sure what that means, keep reading and find out!

Control bunkers on steroids

First of all, a small but necessary change; we noticed that System Control bunkers are quite fragile next to Starbase Control Towers since they lack any kind of armor or shield resistances while having far less hit points. This often leads attackers to capture a system before a proper defense force can be gathered, thus defeating the whole purpose of having them in the first place since they are supposed to promote PvP interactions.

image

We are also aware that increasing their durability too much will only mimic starbase siege situations and encourage blobbing, which are points we absolutely would like to avoid in such scenarios. As such, control bunker shield and armor hit points are going to be increased by 50%, which should hopefully give a bit more flexibility for any defence force to mount up a fleet before the system is taken. Of course, we will monitor the situation and possibly adjust hitpoints again in the future if the need arises.
